General: Coffee was introduced in El Salvador in the mid-nineteenth century and its climatic conditions enable the country to grow rich sweet cherry beans. Until 1930’s the main market for El Salvador’s coffee was Europe. However, during the World War II the figures changed with 84% of national production going to the United States. From 1950 to 1970 the coffee production in El Salvador went through a technological modernization; Nowadays, El Salvador is known to be the most productive coffee producing country in the world.
